Prayer Request from India
Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 6:36PM
Boys in orphanage we just left in the HimalayasToday was Mum’s birthday, and tomorrow is July 4. It will not seem like July 4, as there is (of course) no such celebration here in India.
As many of you know, tomorrow Yulia (my Russian friend) and I will be travelling to Orissa, the state where radical Hindus have been attacking Christians. We will be flying in the morning, then travelling by car on what we have been told is a very bad, jarring road for five hours to get to the orphanage.
We have been briefed to be shocked by nothing, as there are apparently many shocking conditions there. It may be difficult to communicate verbally. We were told that if the director’s daughter is not there, the only interpreter we will have is the director, who barely speaks English. (They do not speak Hindi there, but a tribal language, so it is difficult to find interpreters.) It is my experience that you do not need language to communicate love.
We were also told that if we hear anything at all about attacks on Christians, we will need to run to the forest to escape.
Those were mental preparations we have had to make, but Yulia and I cannot wait to get there and are SO looking forward to the privilege of meeting these children and sharing God’s love with them.
We would appreciate your prayers for protection and to be able to communicate with the children!
With love and prayers for you and your family!
Nicola :)
