News from Kyrgyzstan - Outdoor Eating Area

Foundation was begun the afternoon I bought supplies!I have been in Kyrgystan for the past month serving in an orphanage.  I recently arrived in India - please keep me in your prayers, water has been scarce.

Because 96% of Kyrgyzstan is mountainous, the sun is strong and summers days are very hot. The orphanage does not have air conditioning, and cooking in the kitchen makes the building hot. They want an outdoor patio with a light shelter (a metal frame covered with tarp which will be removed in the winter) with a cooking area/sink so they can cook and clean up outside and keep the heat out of the orphanage.

I have experienced baking in the sun while eating outside. At the beginning of June on the holiday "Day of Protecting Children" a group of policemen and government officials came to bring cakes and toys for the children. The local news crew interviewed Gena and Sveta, the Papa and Mama there and videoed the officials and policemen handing out toys. The sun was hot and bright and after being in the sun for one hour I got sun poisoning.

When I asked them what project I could help them with this trip, they wanted me to buy the materials and payKids Squinting Because Sun So Bright for the labour to build this patio. Hope for Tomorrow has a policy it doesn’t give money to charities, but buys the materials. Two days ago I bought the materials and that very afternoon they started digging the foundation.
